PART 4 of THEY SAY / I SAY

We have a pretty big reading assignment today which we will discuss in the discussions area.

ASSIGNMENT:

Today you will read all of the Part 4 of THEY SAY / I SAY.  These are pages 139 through 225.

After you have read pages 139 through 225, please respond to The Anticipate Objections section on page 171.

This discussions assignment will be a little different.  Once again you will be applying some of the ideas that you have learned in the reading to your own writing but the section does not offer a specific exercise.

Let's make one up.

Let's just talk about how we have anticipated objections in some of our own Epinions assignments.

Have you ever written something like this in one of your reviews:

"You may have sworn you would never ride a Schwinn again after a bad experience, but I am here to tell youo that this new Schwinn..."

A sentence like that reaches out to the audience by anticipating their opbjections.

Here's another example that might come straight out of an Epinion review:

"After the last hideously boring Woody Allen movie I endured I swore to myself I would never rent another one, but his most recent movie really surprised me."

Here's another example of anticipating objections:

"Many people might say they have had bad experiences with the fishing in Cabo San Lucas but I am here to say that any of those problems will vanish if you hook up with the right charter company."

ASSIGNMENT:

Please find the ANTICIPATING OBJECTIONS discussion in Section 3 and share with us some lines from your reviews that have anticipated objections.

Once you have done the above...
